Platoon is just on the cusp of being too serious for Call of Duty fans, but I would be remiss not to include at least one Vietnam film (for the soundtrack if nothing else). And of all of them, Platoon justifies the action with the least emotionality or plot. Most WWII films would have a few too many scenes of sobbing loved ones or political speeches for Call of Duty fans. But not Enemy At The Gates. Okay, that was a little disrespectful to the film's attempts at being poignant. But we know why we're watching anyway. It's to see talented snipers crawl over the still-warm corpses of their allies for more ammunition. This is honestly perhaps the best film focused on snipers of all time. This little number is a touch more special forces than boots on the ground, but then for every Marine regiment we play as in Call of Duty, there's also a Task Force 141 mission. 6 Days follows the iconic SAS raid of the Iranian embassy in London in 1980. Truly, the world's first taste of modern Special Forces, older readers will likely remember the photographs of the crew rappelling down the building with their MP5s. It can be hard to take a man like Mark Wahlberg seriously. And in truth, Lone Survivor is not a well-written film. But you didn't come here to be directed to the obvious war films - you came here to know what a Call of Duty fan would love. And so, for that reason, I think Lone Survivor is perfect. It offers just the right balance between mil-sim accuracy and Hollywood heroism.
