Cropped They Are Billions

About this gallery:

To put together this list, we set out to find the absolute best of the best for slicing through hordes of enemies, whether you’re going solo or bringing along some backup. Naturally, we kept it to one game per franchise (though we might’ve squeezed in a whole franchise here and there – it was too tough to choose!).

Remember, this is a subjective list! If you think we missed a killer game for wiping out hundreds of enemies in no time, drop it in the comments! | © Numantian Games

Cropped Chaos Gate

20. Demon Chaos (2005)

If you’re looking for sheer chaos, Demon Chaos delivers, pitting you against unending waves of demons in a real button-mashing frenzy. It’s a bit rough around the edges and certainly doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but there’s an oddly satisfying thrill in slicing through hundreds of enemies. The plot may be thin, but when the action ramps up, you won’t mind. Just be prepared to fend off more enemies than you’ll know what to do with! | © Konami

DYNASTY WARRIORS

19. Dynasty Warriors Series (1997–Today)

Ah, Dynasty Warriors – the OG of taking on armies single-handedly! This series is infamous for its endless hordes and even longer combos. While it doesn’t vary much between games, there’s something addictively mindless about cutting down waves of enemies to seize territories. Each new installment adds a bit more flash, making it a dependable choice for horde-slaying fans. Get ready for historical action with a healthy dose of fantasy. | © Koei Tecmo

World War Z

18. World War Z (2019)

Inspired by the Brad Pitt movie, World War Z brings fast-paced, nail-biting zombie action. The best part? Watching zombies swarm in terrifying waves that actually feel like a force to reckon with. The gameplay may not be groundbreaking, but team up with friends, and it’s an exhilarating experience as you strategize and survive together. This one keeps you on your toes, especially on higher difficulties! | © Saber Interactive

Dead Rising MSN

17. Dead Rising (2006)

Dead Rising brings the horror-comedy angle to horde-slaying, letting you unleash mayhem in a zombie-infested mall with… pretty much anything you can find. Ever wanted to fight zombies with a lawnmower? This is your game. The inventive weapons are what make Dead Rising so much fun, even when the horde feels relentless. It’s silly, bloody, and will keep you entertained for hours. | © Capcom

Days Gone

16. Days Gone (2019)

With its mix of survival horror and open-world exploration, Days Gone puts you on the front lines against "Freakers," its terrifying zombie-esque hordes. The setting is beautiful but ominous, with tension that ramps up as you hear the approaching mass of undead. While not perfect, the game shines when you’re running from – or straight into – hordes of freakish foes. It’s a heart-racing experience in a scenic apocalypse. | © Sony Interactive Entertainment
