The tides have turned in the battle for screen time. Parents can now decide how long their children can play Fortnite.

After Steam introduced new parental controls, Epic Games are now following suit.

Screen time limits come to Fortnite

In a recent blog post, Epic Games announced that they're introducing new tools for parents to keep a closer eye on their kids' screen time. Parents can now set time limits for their child's account in the Parental Controls section of the Fortnite main menu or on the Epic Account Portal on the web.

With these tools, parents can do the following:

  • Limit the total amount of time their child can play per day.
  • Choose specific time windows when their child can play each day, and set time limits within that window.
  • Choose whether to allow their child to request more time as they approach the end of their time limit.

So if the kids are playing Fortnite, they will get an in-game message that their time is about to expire in 30 minutes.

They can then request more time (if their parents allow it). And when playtime is over, the child won't be able to play again until the next day.

It's clear that parents these days are a lot more savvy with gaming than our parents were, those poor kids!
