May 23, 2008: At 20, Cal State L.A.’s Phi Kappa Phi fellow on his way to law school.
Andrew Jick is one of only 60 students nationwide to be awarded a prestigious Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) Graduate Fellowship for the 2008-2009 academic year. In receiving the $5,000 award, Jick becomes the ninth Cal State L.A. student in the past 11 years to be selected for the Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. June 4, 2007: Young College Grads Get Early Start.
Imagine entering medical school or law school at age 18, or earning a university diploma at 16 -- with honors. The stories are real for students known as EEPsters -- participants in the Early Entrance Program at CSULA. With the advantage of starting college early, 23 students ranging from 16-21 years old will be receiving their baccalaureate degrees at CSULA. Saturday, June 9, 2007. May 31, 2007: CSULA's Ng heads to Med School as Phi Kappa Phi fellow.
CSULA biology major Timothy W. Ng is one of only 60 students nationwide to be awarded a prestigious Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for the 2007-2008 academic year. In receiving the $5,000 award, Ng becomes the eighth CSULA student in the past ten years to be selected for the Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. Ng, who will complete his bachelor's degree in biology and minors in mathematics and Chinese this spring, will begin attending the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine next month. November 27, 2006: Wen takes Rhodes Scholarship for Return to Oxford.
Recently selected as a Rhodes Scholar, Wen, a 2001 CSULA alumna and currently a medical-school student at Washington University in St. Louis, will begin two years of all-expenses-paid study at the University of Oxford in England next fall. According to The Rhodes Trust's announcement, Wen is among 32 U.S. students chosen from 896 nominees based on high academic achievement, personal integrity, leadership potential and physical vigor. The Rhodes Scholarship is the world's oldest international fellowship. Wen entered CSULA when she was 13 and earned a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in biochemistry at the age of 18. June 7, 2006: At 19, he's off to Med School from CSULA.
Biochemistry major Rex Cheng has been awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for the 2006-2007 academic year. Cheng is one of only 60 students nationwide to receive the $5,000 Graduate Scholar Award from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is the eighth CSULA student in the past nine years to be selected for the Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. Cheng will graduate with honors on June 10, 2006, at the age of 19, with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. Cheng will next be attending Duke University School of Medicine. August 15, 2005: CSULA Alumni to be Honored at Annual Awards Gala.
On Thursday, October 20, 2005, CSULA will celebrate the outstanding contributions of its alumni and students to their professions, communities and the University at the 32nd Annual Alumni Awards Gala. June 5, 2005: Fifteen Young Grads Will Walk in CSULA Undergraduate Commencement.
At an age when many of their peers are graduating from high school or starting college, 14 students ranging from 18-22 years old will be receiving their baccalaureate degrees. An additional EEP undergraduate will be receiving both a baccalaureate degree and a teaching credential. Three more "EEPsters" will be attending CSULA's Master's Hooding Ceremony on Friday, June 10. These exceptionally bright students are part of CSULA's Early Entrance Program (EEP), the only program of its kind in the nation. EEP has grown steadily since its inception in 1983; there are more than 100 EEPsters now attending CSULA. EEP admits extraordinarily gifted youngsters -- some as young as 11 -- directly into college, providing the early entrants with monitored evaluation, regular counseling sessions, and the opportunity to study with like-minded peers. May 31, 2005: CSULA Biology Major Awarded National Graduate Fellowhip.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently announced that 18-year-old CSULA biology major David Nguyen has been awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for the 2004-2005 academic year. Nguyen is one of only 60 students nationwide to receive the $5,000 Graduate Scholar Award. This is the seventh year since 1998 that a Cal State L.A. student has been among the select national winners of the Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship. Click here for complete article.

June 3, 2004: CSULA Summa Cum Laude Accepted to Top Med School.
Bibhu Mohanty will be going to Duke University School of Medicine this fall, rated annually as one of the top five in the country. Bibhu, who was admitted to CSULA through Early Entrance Program (EEP) at the age of 15, got an early start in pursuing his goal to become a physician. He hopes to focus his future career on medical care for the underserved and financially deprived. Bibhu discovered CSULA's EEP -- the only program of its kind in the nation that enables gifted youth to participate fully in University life -- through his father, Madhu Mohanty, who is a professor of economics and statistics at CSULA.
