Sony presented the PS5 Pro in a livestream. Sadly, it didn't go well, with only a moderate graphic and performance upgrade being offered for $700.
With the new PS5 Pro, you don't have to choose between quality and performance mode. The new console will be able to offer the quality of a base PS5 at 30fps, at 60fps (or even 120 for certain games). But is it worth the prize?
What Makes It A "Pro" Console?
Frankly not much. Namely, the PS5 Pro will have:
- Upgraded GPU: 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: AI-driven upscaling for improved frame rate consistency.
This will effectively combine the results of performance and quality mode currently available on the PS5.
Is It Worth $700?
The high price of $700 shocked the Internet and left people asking, is this improvement worth hundreds of dollars? According to most reactions: no.
For gamers who already have the PS5, $700 is too much, and it's questionable that people who haven't bought the PS5 in the last 4 years are now paying $700 for the Pro model instead of buying a normal one for much less.
Also, Sony failed to prevent any so-called "system sellers" for the PS5 Pro in their presentation. The only games shown on the console were older titles like The Last of Us Part II.
We'll see how the PS5 Pro sells, but the first impression wasn't great.
What do you think of the PS5 Pro? Will you buy one or if you already have a PS5 will you stick with the standard model?
