The PlayStation Portal is a handheld console that was released in November 2023, enabling remote play from wherever life took PlayStation fans.

You can play current PS5 titles on its 8-inch display for up to 6 hours on a single charge, with ergonomic DualSense controllers on the sides for a comfortable gaming experience.

Cloud gaming

Cloud gaming is becoming a central part of the video game scene. It allows players to enjoy games without needing specific hardware, making it an attractive alternative to traditional console or PC gaming. This means you don't need the latest console or graphics card to experience demanding titles.

With cloud gaming, the game is streamed directly to your device with minimal latency or graphic loss.

The biggest cloud gaming provider right now is Microsoft with its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, available for €17.99 per month, giving you access to a vast library of cloud-based games. Other options include Nvidia GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, and Shadow.

PlayStation also offers streaming via a PlayStation Plus Premium account, which until the recent update, was only available for PS4 and PS5 consoles.

Cloud-Gaming: The update

As the cloud streaming feature is still being tested, you’ll need to register for the Beta to try it out. Additionally, PlayStation Plus is required.

To register and enable cloud streaming, follow these steps:

  1. Open the "Quick Menu" and go to "Settings" on your PS Portal.
  2. Select the "Cloud Streaming (Beta)" option.
  3. Activate "Cloud Streaming (Beta)" (it is disabled by default).

After activating Cloud Streaming in the settings menu, a new option should appear on the PS Portal's home screen, allowing you to access games via cloud streaming.

Along with cloud streaming, the update also brings several audio improvements. The volume will now automatically adjust to a lower level when set to minimum, preventing sudden loud sounds.

Additionally, users can now control the volume of their PlayStation Link device directly from the PS Portal menu, making it easier to manage audio when switching between different sources.

The update also brings minor tweaks to the user interface and general settings to improve usability.

These updates aim to enhance the user experience by improving both the device’s audio performance and its cloud gaming capabilities.
